Dad had this hanging on the wall of our "Recreation Room" - Finished Basement along with other WW II armaments. He said it came from a factory in Germany at wars end. I have searched for hours and see nothing like it regarding optics mount. Would really appreciate members help in letting me know what I have.

Looks like you have a 1943 Steyr single claw. The bolt looks to probably match (it has the proper shortened safety). Optics will be very hard to find for this rifle.

Stock looks to have had some type of varnish put on it.

Agreed. That would be Dad making the stock "look nicer". Thank goodness he didn't give in to Uncle Walt who wanted to "sporterize" it. All numbers that I can see on the rifle match including the bolt.

Gettin somethin that was obviously treasured from your dad is a priceless deal.
That’s what makes it truly special. :)

To second what Dave said, more pics of details with the scope bases and all the parts would be good to see if ya can, for all of our education.

Thanks for postin it.

Very cool rifle to have handed down, its a keeper for sure.

I bet your inbox is blowing up!

If you insist on shooting the rifle , make sure the cross bolt and trigger guard screws are all tight or better yet swap out the stock before hand with another k98 stock . I have seen to many stocks split or worse crack at the wrist because of this . In all honesty I would not shoot the rifle . The rifle is worth way to much only to shoot it and maybe have it damaged . Just my opinion !!!!!!!!
