Peruvian Mauser 1909 - Matching (*almost)

Got this one recently as an all matching example 6290, turned out to be 1 number from matching - the cocking piece is a replacement numbered 96. Never been more tempted to flub something but my integrity kicked in. What's strange is that the firing pin even matches 90, it's just the cocking piece!

These are one of the finest south american contract guns and are nearly impossible to find in original good condition with matching numbers. Dennis @ Empire told me that they where imported by Interarms and there was some brilliant way they displaced the bolts from the rifles in order to not get some kind of import tax, but they where all mismatched afterwards.

This one seems to have a strange proof mark I have only seen on a few other rifles in Europe, you see it after the serial number on the barrel shank and the receiver ring, and again on the bolt body by the serial. It's a little flaming L or C type character- does anyone know what this is? I have only seen it on two other rifles and they where both from Europe. There is also an E and R marked on the buttplate. The importer looks like "orion" or something??

The action is butter smooth, unlike the other Peruvian I have which is mismatched.

I paid a pretty penny because it was the first matching example I had ever come across, I alerted the seller on the cocking piece mismatch and it was an honest mistake, he refunded me 20% of the price back. Still, a valuable rifle for sure.

Proof looks Belgian to me... beautiful rifle though, 20% refund was more than generous. Probably why Empire has such a good seller reputation.

Dennis, is the man, he would have never made a mistake like that. This one came from another source, a good guy named John @ Exclusive Firearms.

I wonder if this rifle came from a European source...........

Thanks for the lead into the Beligan proof mark. I found some of this, also researching the "Orion" import mark:

Another Peruvian for sale in Germany:

90's era Belgian S&W with the same mark:

Orion is a German import mark, that stands for the "Hege" company, formally known as "Hebsacker" and "Zeughaus Hege".
The company still exists.
Proof is Belgian, but it´s strange that they add 7,65 Arg. instead of 7,65 Belgian.
So this rifle seems to be intended for the German market.
Nice rifle!

Nice Peruvian! I have one very similar in condition and all matching except the cleaning rod, which is a few digits off. Mine is not import marked nor does it have any extra proofs. I should post up pics of it one of these days.
