It was probably added by the South Africans. If you want to mount a German sling you'll need to remove it. Otherwise let it be. Since the rifle has South African markings on the receiver you wouldn't be wrong to leave as-is and just not use a sling. The sling loop at the rear, just want to check again there is no historical significance before I gently remove ?
I want to make way for a G98 sling with detach.
Did you find out what the proof house actually did wrongly? And does it now have two proofs?Indeed I was aware of the proof mistake before I bid as member of staff told me. After a big sigh I built myself a bridge and got over that. Glad they stamped it small and in an area that is not seen often..
No I didn't 100% , only that "stamped caliber wrong at proof" but it has two proofs yes, the correct one and the 308 lined out. Luckily its quite discreetDid you find out what the proof house actually did wrongly? And does it now have two proofs?
Sure I can askMind asking them about it? I really would be keen to know if the proof house tried (or did) fire a .308 proof round in the rifle
Is this double proof in any of the photos? Please post pictures of this anomaly.Indeed I was aware of the proof mistake before I bid as member of staff told me. After a big sigh I built myself a bridge and got over that. Glad they stamped it small and in an area that is not seen often..
