P.38 ac42 with both matching magazines

Usually not this into handguns, but by pure accident stumbled on this one. I'm not sure the seller realized at all the magazines were matching, I think he didn't, because he initially offered me to buy it without holster and spare mag, but I said I'd take the whole set, despite the holster has had the swivels at the rear cut off .. well, here is my first P.38 with both matching numbered magazines, an early ac42 from the a block. Initially I was a bit distracted by the fact that I remembered some have the serial number on the magazine body and not on the floorplate, but it looked so convincing that I thought that there may had been a change. Actually then later realized at home that not only they moved the numbering placement, but also stopped adding the + to the spare mag. Is there any rule as to when the numbering moved from the body to the floorplate, and was that also connected with leaving out the + for the spare magazine?

That's a beauty and a wonderful rig, congrats! It's hard enough to find a nice honest ac 42 but one with two matching mags and the holster is a pleasant surprise.

By 1941 they were numbered on the floor plate, and even that position changed from the toe to lengthwise on the plate by 1942.
Thanks! I have two more with matching magazine, but either of them is with only one magazine. I think you are right, one is numbered on the toe, and that would be the ac41. Could it be that with ac40 (I think that is the code with the other one that has a matching mag?) the pistol serial is on the side of the magazine? Actually I think that one has the pistol serial with suffix and a +, to denote the spare magazine.
