Nice, and you even resisted the urge to call it a “black widow” luger.

I forgot to as I was busy sorting my locking screws. ;) If I ever was forced to list it on Gunbonker I’d remember that term along with other carnival barking and put it in the description with lots more cheese right after “for you fans off……”

No big sin to call these Black Widows IMO. It’s just one of hundreds of nicknames and slang terms that have been applied to arms since the Brown Bess 250 years ago! No need to have a melt down, maybe Shattuck coined it many he heard it from a vet or two in the 60s when buying them and jumped the claim when using it in all his listings from the 70s-90s, who cares and what “ difference at this point does it make”? It seems like a lot of collectors for the butt hurt when they realized that Himmler did not officially name them “black widows” like they thought, wow, the humanity. The real irony is that it is fact that a fairly high percentage of byf Lugers, both black and wooden grip fitted, were allocated to the W-SS. There are sound and verified reasons for this as well as a wealth of anecdotal accounts of this from vet found examples.

Lots of SS with GP.35s. That’s what I’d want and even what I’d feel comfortable with today.

The term “Black Widow” around here is far from a cause of butthurt. It’s a running joke and provides a source of cliche type humor.

Yes I think the W-SS received at large number of GP-35s starting probably in later 1942 and they show up in a lot of SS photos by the summer of 43 onwards along with lots of Lugers still seen with new divisions stood up in mid 43 and even later. I draw a lot of humor from others triggers of humor! We are talking about the Luger configuration with the nickname that serious collectors cannot say. Now that’s funny.

I don’t know that anyone can ID when the SS received anything without records. GP35s show up with SS in 1941 at Barbarossa and in pics from Normandy and the Ardennes. They weren’t P.38s or even P.08s so the SS got them. I think you’ll find that the sh!ts you give about the term “Black Widow” number more than the ones we have to offer on the topic, probably collectively. It’s nothing more than a dealer carnival bark and warrants the serious discussion or butthurt that a carnival barker or a sideshow merits. Which means that it lacks for serious discussion or butthurt as say, debate over the proper taxonomy for “Timmy the Turtle Boy” at the sideshow (i.e., Is he a turtle? Is he a boy? Should turtleboy be a new species?)

I’d say that sums it up!👍

OP note: the "white" appearance is ballistol shine from lighting glare, my poor photography skillz.

Nice one! Makes me miss mine, but I am enjoying the hunting property a lot. Got my first turkey this spring and mentored a hunt with a friends kid last year for his first deer. Very rewarding.
