Opinions On Newly Purchased DWM 1916 Gew98

I was going to let this one go, as my knowledge is zero on Gew98's compared to K98.

But I ended up with it in the end. I called to confirm that the bolt matches, but forgot to ask about the stock #'s.

Anyways, would love to know your initial thoughts. Handguard color is throwing me off a bit.

Do you have any pictures of the bolt? That's going to answer a lot. For example, I've got one with a bolt that "matches" but it's a depot replacement. Also other small parts like the sight assembly, floor plate, ejector box, etc. I think I see a matching number on the front band which is hopeful, in my experience you rarely have stock mismatches that managed to retain the original bands.

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of the bolt or other parts.

I too noticed that the front (and rear band) was matching. Smart money bets tje stock is good.

Post some better pics when you get it in hand.

That said, I'm far from an expert but I'm liking what I see so far. At the very least no one has gone hog wild with a scotch brite, tub of Barkeeper's Friend, and can of oven cleaner to "restore" the wood and metal. From where I'm sitting it looks salty but honest, and I'm willing to bet some conservative cleaning will take a fair bit of grime off it and make it present a bit better.

For the price you paid it’s a win win either way. I was bidding but let it go as I just got a 1917 dwm. I would venture to bet the handguard is a mismatch.
I lost track of time, and I don't put max bids in, so I was shocked when I got the email saying I won.

I'm hopeful it's matching, but we will see.

My 1914 DWM G98 was in almost the same condition when I found it, plus the stock had been clumsily glued back together and split in two on my first shot.
That said, after a solid repair and a light cleaning it is a very nice piece that I presented a few years ago on this forum.
The G98s from this factory are not the most common, especially from the beginning of the war.
Congratulations on the purchase.

Hopefully it's matching! No clue what ya paid for it but from another member comments it sounds like price wise you did great. I like!

Rrrrrrrusty. Looks like an attic find but that super clean stock disc compared to the rest of the metal raises an eyebrow. Otherwise should clean up good if the proper care is taken. Really wish the photos were on the site and not some image sharing service…

Will you flip this one on Legacy Collectibles or try through the trader? Gunboards perhaps?

Not sure yet, where do you have the best luck flipping?

It has a matching bolt ("bolt body" - at least in 2012)

wartime DWM's are either near "minty" or used harshly, at least in trends, much like wartime Spandau's... flipping is best on gunbroker but how you do it matters (pictures matter, as does "cleaning" - fastest way to waste money, other buying US debt-treasury bonds is poor cleaning and bad pictures at auction...)

Lowe did you own this rifle at one time then, or was it just posted on the forum in the past??

Thanks for the pictures. No supprises now! Looks like a good one.
Not mine, off a forum, auction or collector that asked a question or help. Based upon the pictures I would say an auction but it could be off a gun dealers website. I didn't save a context and usually don't unless it is relevant to the report or source, (collector to collector, if alive especially, I rarely share the report unless it was made publicly)

I see nothing of a obvious problem but little things can make a difference
