Old rifle, new member

I recently got my great uncles war souvenir and am hoping you knowledgeable folks can shed some light on this old rifle. I harvested my first whitetail with this gun in 1979. The bore and chamber are in great shape, and there is zero pitting so is a safe firearm as far as I can tell. We lost my great uncle sometime ago and I know almost nothing about the rifle and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Fred, has the rifle been sporterized ?
The rifle started its life as a commercial rifle (for civilians), but given the SS2 stamp, it might have been in the hands of SS guys, before your great uncle got it.
I don’t know if you still use it as a hunting rifle, but if the stock is not sporterized, it is valuable.

It was a commercial rifle made by Mauser in the later half of the 1930s. Somehow it ended up with the SS who reworked it with a new barrel in July 1942. It looks like the rear sight is missing?

Its a bit odd to see a "Standard Modell 1924" receiver marking. I thought it was gone by the C prefix.

I did not put this in Volume I since at the time data was limited and still is.
That 'C10000' range was apparently used for a new block of guns, of which the GrBB shows up
along with a very limited number of non-cartouched rifles.

The rifle in question, C10080 is the lowest I have documented and started off as a Banner K.
At some point it was repaired - appears to be 7-42 and found its way into an SS depot.

A very interesting rifle with some great history. Depending on severity of cut and stock alterations,
there is a possibility of a restoration here.

I hope the information helps, I have gotten a lot of help from you fine folks! The stock has been duffel cut and missing the front barrel band and the cut for the stock sling is crudely patched. The stock is also marked 080 under the butt plate.

Fred, is there any remnant of a Deathshead stamp in the grip area just behind the rear TG screw.
Stock has been hit really bad but figured would ask.

I can see a faint remnant of a skull an the 080 on what would be the pistol grip. I will attach the best photos I can get
