Non-import 1943 Izhevsk

This isn't as cool as Lthilsdorf's German rebuilt 91/30 but it took me by surprise a bit. I saw the stock markings and thought there was a chance that it had not been rebuilt so rolled the dice on it. What surprised me was that it seems to be lacking import markings so it might be a bringback of some sort. The machining on the receiver and barrel shank is not rough like the typical 1943 Izhevsk and has an appearance more like a PU rifle would have although it otherwise shows no sign of having ever been a sniper or intended to be one.

Definitely a factory matching rifle. But IMO the stock has been stripped and some of the metal looks polished and maybe re-blued or touched up. I would be willing bet the same person removed a small import marks from the barrel. All this in an attempt to make it look like a bring back.

I sold a similar rifle at the SOS to a member here that was a nice original rifle with small import marks. A year later he had it for sale with the import marks removed and stock stripped and it was advertised as "bring back."

More photos would be nice. Can probably get better information on the stock marks and elsewhere if you got them.

It looks like postwar refurbishment, reblued, some parts black painted, the bolt should be presented for marking too.

The bolt is not factory, it is typical Soviet post-war renumbering.

Import mark was removed or simply never applied.

Yep, I missed that. So looks like a typical refurb someone tried to make look like a “bring back.”

Some of the non-import marked guns encountered in the U.S. were "brought back" from Canada. Marstar Canada used to import TONS of milsurp iron.

I am not surprised. I didn't pay any premium for it but the bolt seemed like someone polished it. I am used to the refurbs having digits only without the Cyrillic prefix letters.
