Nice and Crisp 1888 Amberg 71/84 93685

Hi All,

I had a little bit of time to photo a few things this weekend. I acquired this one a little over a year ago. I wasn't particularly looking for an additional Amberg, but this one really jumped out condition-wise and came with a nice unit marked muzzle cap.

When I input this one into the study, this is the 3rd highest Amberg documented currently. The rifle was not issued and does not bear a unit mark on the buttplate. The normally fragile bluing on the bands is still in decent shape.

Not much to say other than this one is a looker. Not my nicest 71/84, but certainly pretty. There is an old dry coat of oil or something on some of the metal that likely protected it over the years.

Another stunner Chris!
That's a beauty Chris, I'm amazed at how much better the fit when compared to the other makers.
That burns the eyes it’s so nice…..I can’t imagine that very many 71/84 stocks look that nice.. that piece of wood is smoking
Thanks guys! I like the darker stained wood on these Bavarian rifles from this period. My Spandaus have all had a much lighter finish.

71/84s tend to be a bit of a forgotten rifle. They carry a high standard of quality and are easy to find in good shape. It's probably the quickest way to get a "mint" imperial rifle. I recommend folks snag a nice one while they are available.

Ohhh…that’s a beauty!!! Thanks for sharing!
You inspired me to go look at mine…it’s minty as well.
Here are a couple of photos and its unit mark.

Thanks Blue--- that's a stunner you have as well. Thanks for sharing-- i'll make sure it's in the study.

Very nice. Thanks for sharing, you don't see them like this much anymore. I remember in the late 80, s and early 90, s I would see them once in a while nice like yours.

This is an absolute stunner, great to see one so late. And its fascinating to see how bluing ages naturally, instead of from wear.
Awesome photos, too, it's in the reference.

Gorgeous rifle, that stock is incredible! I gotta stop looking at 71/84s, last thing I need is to find myself another obscure cartridge to reload for.
