Newbie with 1943 dot K98

Hello, I’m new to the Mauser brotherhood. I recently inherited a 1943 dot K98, all numbers match. The stock was cut down to fit in a duffel bag to bring back from WW2. I’m looking for help with a value and weather or not it’s worth trying to replace the stock for collectibility. Any help would be great!

It looks like someone dipped that stock in a bucket of polyurethane. A more correct stock would set you back at least $250, probably more. It would make it look much more correct but won't help it's value much as it won't be original and that's what collectors like, original. If you do opt for a replacement do not throw away the original if numbered to the rifle in the barrel channel. The experts will need more and better pictures of numbered parts, etc.

Be sure to check the pictures reference sticky above.

Thank you. That’s what I figured. I’ve been told with a new stock, it’d be worth around $700, not sure it’s really worth it?

I restored a vet bring back of my Uncles. Took several years to find the "correct" stock. but I needed the bands as well and was lucky I just happened to have a pair of unnumbered ones. You have a sling to boot, that's another plus. Mine will never be sold so the $$ amount does not matter. Restore it I say if you will keep it. Sell it as is if that is what you want to do.

So right now you're in it for $0. IF all the parts that are there are matching/correct and in equal condition to what's shown it almost certainly is. You could get a representative stock (similar mid-war) but with maybe correct type but mismatched parts probably less than that $250 number. IF you could find a 'correct' '43 dot stock with matching hardware probably in the $275-350 range depending how nice. At the finer end of that last option it would almost certainly be worth $700 or maybe more on Gunbroke

First welcome and second you don't say what your intentions are for this? Semi-collectible representative piece? Occasion shooter you can fool around with? It really kind of matters in the discussion as to what you want. How's the bore?

It’s honestly just a cool conversation piece, with the amount of history behind it! My question on value was to be sure it would add value. Otherwise, as an occasional shooter. Thank you for the advice and kind welcoming words.
