New to k98k's; need a value opinion

The original bluing on my 1917 Remington Enfield looks like it just left the factory, same with my byf 42 K98.

The price of $2300 is alot of money for a rifle with problems and a rather common code. Mlukas be patient some really nice K98k rifles turn up for sale quite often here. I would advise doing your research and learning the field before spending large amounts of money on rifles though.

Finding a nice bolt mismatched rifle would be a nice entry rifle for you though. And like others have said alot of good people here if your really in the market for a nice K98k rifle. I put you on a contact list.

I go too alot of shows during the year.

Suspicion doesn't mean it ain't legit but nice bluing on an old military rifle has me looking at stamps and for pitting that's been blued over. I have a 1908 Swedish m96 that has imaculate bluing. I looked it over pretty darn close before I bought it too.

Bob's prices are always high mainly due to overhead. I've known him for well over twenty years and he is knowledgeable and stands behind his descriptions.

It's possible but I personally think it differs from other nice dot rifles. Could be my eyes, this type of thing is subjective with photos. But I tend to see subtle variances even on a mint gun.

You almost have to err on the side of caution, if in doubt don't buy it. Enough expert people here have expressed doubts about the markings, and for that price it ought to be darn near perfect.

I would say that CanadianAR's assessment is pretty accurate. Although it isn't glaringly obvious, I too feel like this one is refinished. They've done a decent job at it, but the dead give away (at least to me) is the lack of variance in colour between any of the small components. For example, the extractor is the EXACT same colour as the receiver... which is kind of worrisome given that just about every dot 1944 I've ever looked at displays a distinct plum hue on the extractor.
