Hello everyone. I have collected WWII German items for years and have just moved into the small arms area. I recently got my first Luger, an all matching 1938 (except magazine) and just picked up my first K98. I hope she fills all the check marks I had set for one. I wanted one just as if I picked it off the battlefield, all matching, desirable code and totally unmolested. The numbered parts are as follows, both of the bands, the rear sight in 3 places, the hand guard, the stock inside the channel and on the bottom between the pistol grip and butt plate, the receiver, the bottom of the barrel has the last 2 digits, the cocking piece, the safety, the bolt release, the bolt handle and it has the eagle/swastika proof mark also, the bolt shroud, the trigger, the firing pin, floor plate and trigger guard. The butt plate, magazine follower and cleaning rod are not marked. Is the rifle missing anything it should have? I know the DOU 42 was the first yr K98 produced at the factory, and only the last 6 months or so. Mine is 7795b.Is the anyway to determine approximately when it was made during those last 6 months? Also, would this be a Heer contract? That’s what I’m thinking, but firearms are new to me. I appreciate any information and thank you for reading.
