New sniper find.

I have this minty closet find BNZ sniper. I hope that I can find an original WWII German Single Claw Scope with mounts for a sniper rifle that I own. I know that this could be an impossible task, but worth trying. This was brought to USA as a trophy at the end of WWII and I suspect that the rifle scope was removed before it was surrendered (for obvious reasons). In any event, any help will be greatly appreciated!

Yes the farmer that had it lightly stained it 50 years ago. Said it shoots real good:)

Hi. Thanks for your kind reply. Yes it was stained by the farmer. I knew someone would ask.. that's why I said, "stained by a farmer "in my original post". Quick fingers?

Still has Deep eagle and H
How much for your mount since it matches mine better than yours? 5K? OK...Joking.

wow... that's a near mint single claw !!! your stock looks odd I feel due to it being a white glue stock. They were still staining stocks at this point and it would not have been raw. Herc's is a red glue type and they can have a totally different look than a steyr white glue type.. Reaching out here might be your best bet to find one. Then never stop looking online ... they do turn up at times just be prepared to pay..

Well Mr Hercules I guess now I am going to have to ask Dave Roberts.
But if you want to sell I can do better - since its an e block - you kinda have me over a barrel.
When you decide its value please send me a PM:).
For what its worth?
Less and less of us old guys are around to buy these:)

Yes white glue stock....but actual lines of resin have bled out..so its an old stain...take s years for that resin to leach out. Hard as rock now.
Numbers match inside the stock.

That BNZ Single Claw you posted 4942E just came out of the Rock Island Premier Auction.

The pictures I got sent from Rock Island show cleaning. It's still a nice rifle. Too bad the farmer stained it.

it was more than stained it was shellacked inside and out which is sad to see.. these white glue stocks and laminate in general is very hard to get back to 100%. It could be helped along
a little bit by someone who is very talented in saving these.

Guys.. thanks for the advice. Its just fine..does not bother me. ...got 5 guys that want to buy - so selling not an issue. Should have come to this nice forum in the first place:)
The string is kindly asking for a mount and Scope. Not banter about my stock.
Thanks.

Nice single claw. As you can guess, finding a scope and rings for that is going to be very difficult. They are one of the most difficult German scope and rings to find. Good luck in your search and thanks for posting.

And FYI, got your report. This is a great forum and we do not censor people here. That means you will just have to learn to get along and ignore certain people that you don’t see eye to eye with.

If it has in fact been shellaced it can be easily and harmlessly removed in under 30 minutes with just some clean cloths and liberal amounts of denatured alcohol. It will not show a trace that it was ever there. I think that the stock color is fine and interesting enough the German sniper film actually suggests that light stocks be stained darker. Nice rifle.

I took mine off this thread as it’s posted here already. I considered it silly to keep posting it. Here’s the link.

I have all the Rock Island Auction Pictures. I considered bidding on it, but I already had one and the one from Rock Island was Shellac, Cleaned, and Stained. Also, Rock Island charges big money. The hammer price is just one part of the fleecing.

I still think the OP’s rifle is nice. I doubt his story. Sounds like he just bought it and is irritated.
