New Production K98ks

We might be looking at a pre-production version. The Serbians have shown that they can make a very nice civilian market 98. This one appears to have some features of the M48.

I have a Zestava mini-Mauser, left hand, in .225 Remington. Very nice!

I was offered "new production K98K rifles" out of Serbia for 330 euro($355) each recently.
I imagine it's these rifles. Keep in mind the 330 euro price is no doubt when you buy hundreds of them at a time. Then factor in the taxes, fees and transportation and that # quickly balloons.

As far as it being new production. It would not surprise me to see them make brand new barrels/stocks and so on but use leftover parts from other Mausers. Personally I look at that rifle and want to vomit a bit. Goofy looking stock/buttplate. Bluing is horrid. No thanks.
 
Regardless of your knowledge of what constitutes a correct Mauser, this is just such a poor attempt to bring something, anything, to an expo to differentiate yourself from all the other smaller "who-the-hell-is-that" company(s) that was placed in building E, a 5-mile walk from the main hall.

Why anyone would associate their company name with such a turd rather than try and put a minuscule amount of effort into actually producing something that resembles a proper k98, let alone make sure the machining is acceptable. I get it, Mausers are expensive to produce..... But, why not take a lesson from history and do what the Germans did later in the war, i.e, repo a late variation that is cheaper and easier to produce with fewer parts that us "snobs" can go, "oooooh loooooooooooooooook that screw head slot width is off 1/10000000000000000th of an mm. Yep, clear as day that it's a TOTAL TURD."

The only people I see this rifle possibly selling to are people who prefer to pooper scoop their dog's shite with their hands. Cause you'd have to love doing that to put this abomination in your hands.
 
Does anyone have news on these? I've done some surfing and can't find any info. If the price is right, I'd love to get one just to experiment with. It's sad that they didn't just pick an era and make a complete and accurate clone....The bastardization of parts turns me off, but if the dimensions are correct, I can at least design some bolt-on attachments for Kar98k's using it as a base.

Theres no way to make an "affordable clone." That is the gig, nobody can even make proper laminates for repro stocks. The price will always be wrong for me when you can buy an original rifle for much less than any new manufactured rifle will ever cost.

A mass produced rifle like a Remington 700 starts out at 600 dollars, and you can still find a decent shooter k98 for that on a good day. Theres no way a small shop producing small batches of all new *original spec K98s could get any where near that price.
 
Short follower because it is .308 caliber, which is shorter than 8X57mm. I’d bet there is a filler in the front of the mag well. Which makes me wonder if they re-shaped the feed rails. You can’ t take a K98 originally made for 8x57 mm and change the caliber without addressing this issue. It makes the rifle unreliable.
