New Member with a few questons

Hello Everyone! My name is Brian and I've been a lurker for a while now. I live in New York (I know) and I've been collecting military rifles for about 7 years. I'm 23 years old so I'm relatively new to the K98 game hence I don't have much to contribute but I figured I'd introduce myself anyways. I just wanted to thank everyone for the wealth of information that has been made available to me through this forum. Its clear to me that I have a ways to go in this hobby. I recently finished reading Karabiner 98k Vol.1 and about to purchase Kriegsmodell so that's a starting point.

Anyways I figured I would show off some of my finds from this past year. I'd like to get some opinions and see how I did. I'm not the best with a camera so bear with me.

My most recent find. A byf 42 stock mm. I got the rifle and a asw44 matching bayonet both for $600.

It looks like you have some nice stuff there. Its good to see young people taking an interest in old military weapons. Most young people don't care about old firearms. I started collecting when I was 18 and have quite a nice collection now at age 30. I would recommend trying to buy collector grade firearms whenever possible, they will give you a good return on your money if you ever need to sell some of them off.

As another young collector, welcome. I'll be 25 next week. I really like that bayonet, very sharp looking. It appears as though your CE41 is a rework of some type. I am interested in hearing more from the group about that.

I second the statement above about collecting. Buy the best you can afford!

Also another welcome from another young collector, 24 years old and will be 25 in about three months. Nice collection by the way and yes buy the best you can afford. Just what I have learn in my years of collecting the more you learn the more your taste for certain items becomes more expensive. More overtime I guess lol.

Nice to see you guys are interested in firearms other than a tactical AR-15.

Perhaps there is hope for the hobby yet.:>)

Welcome to the forum. You have started out with a very nice collection of K98's. I also see that you have a an interest in other collectable firearms. By the way there is a small show in Freeport, L.Isl. this weekend if your not from upstate NY.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I am also glad to see there are some other younger collectors here especially you guys right in my age bracket. Thank you all from the advice. Money is tight right now so im trying to save for some really nice examples. I really like the early to mid war variants so that's where im trying to focus. I tend to buy anything that jumps my way if the price is right. How do you guys think I did on these?

I do collect other military rifles as well. I enjoy all mauser variants. I have a few Swedes and gew 98s as well as some south American mausers. Also the U.S. military rifles and obscure semis like the svt40 and ljungman ag42b so there's always something to buy. The hard part is finding a place to shoot lol. Im really starting to focus on k98s so ill see where that brings me. Its hard to find any of them locally at decent prices that arent RCs and buying online seems risky to me. Anyways thanks again for all the encouragement!

Hey, welcome to the forum ! I'm a young collector as well and I totally understand what you mean when you say that money is tight ! I'm from Québec close to the border with Maine. If you ever come to Québec and are looking for a place to shoot, we have plenty of private sand pit where we go shoot. I'd be happy to meet you any time if you come by !

Your welcome to shoot at my private range if you come to LA, but might want to wait for a little nicer weather. We're not suppose to have this stuff in Louisiana! Took this photo today

Welcome! Nice rifles! yeah, you aren't the only young guy around here. (Im 27 myself) Hell, I don't even own an AR yet, lol. I'd rather have an old bolt action by my side any day.

Pfft... you call that snow? That's damn near T-shirt weather for us MA/NH folk. You don't even want to see the mountains of snow I have outside my window right now. It'd give you nightmares.

Snow? In Louisiana? That's rough lol. I guess I feel better about the 2 feet I have outside my front door. Makes mighty nice skiing weather though. Hopefully it'll clear up soon and ill come pay you a visit. I've always wanted to try some Cajun food down by the bayou!

Yea we definitely don't know what to do when the bayou ices over!

Saw this poor guy on the way to work this morning - but if you look close he has an Arkansas sticker on the boat - dumb hillbillies!

Wow, the finish on your byf 43 is fantastic... Is that the original finish or was it reblued at some point? Either way it looks incredible, I love high-polish receivers.

As others have said, welcome to the forum. Nice to see there's other young collectors on this site too, I'll be 20 this October (if I can survive this winter, that is).

Stay warm!

Thanks for the compliment! The byf 43 is a sporter rescue with matching everything except the stock and handguard and has indeed been re-blued. The Quality seems high though. The only thing i hate about it is whoever did the blue buffed the snot out of it so there are some wavy lines/markings. Its still my favorite shooter.
