Hey all I’m very new to the .98 world. I’m looking for some help on identifying the following .98. And maybe an estimated value. Thank you for any feedback.

luckily they left the barrel intact. Without the original matching rear sight value is probably around 600-800 with it maybe up to 1k. It's a neat variant made with an earlier banner receiver

Can you post pictures of the Mauser roll mark on the top of the receiver?
The barrel shank has an unusual profile and roll mark make this look odd. When did Mauser have an hh block with a banner and mod98?
Let’s hear what others say.
Can you take it out of the stock and take pictures of any markings on the barrel below the wood line?

Dang. That was a really cool variant. Too bad it got sporterized.

Banner 41s are a know variant in multiple double letter blocks.
The Mauser commercial legend was ground off the receiver side wall and a "Mod 98" was roll marked.

A shame it got sporterized but still a really neat rifle and at least it appears what's left is matching, including the bolt. I'd be very tempted to find an appropriate stock and a sight leaf to bring it back to a correct look at the least.

Also is it recommended to shoot something like this or preserve it once I restore some parts. I definitely would like some recommendations for parts to restore it and where to find them. Also what kind of ammunition does this particular rifle take?

To start, I would keep my eyes open on the trader here! Maybe post a "WTB" (Want To Buy) and someone might be willing to part with what you need! I would look for a cupped buttplate Mauser Oberndorf stock and milled bands!
