New Guy - Would love opinion on these two auctions and what I should expect for $1000

Hi Folks - I'm looking for my first K98k and would love opinions on these two auctions - I am really looking for an all matching, non import marked WW2 example with a good bore. Not looking for anything super rare, just legit. Obviously these are each going to close above $1000 - is that the going rate for an all matching example? I'm fine with that (I think), I just don't want to over pay for something because I'm pretty new to this.

Also - from a collectors perspective, is the duffle cut, if properly repaired, considered a big negative to the rifle's value?

We don't allow posting ongoing auctions. Besides, that seller ( Elite collection) is known for selling boosted rifles, in my opinion you should avoid anything he sells.

Avoid his auctions at all costs.

And answer your question all matching examples that sell for $1,000 are tough to find usually bolt mismatch rifles sale close to that figured. Not saying you can't find examples like that for that price. I myself have pulled good rifles at auctions for lower cost than that but you have to know what you're looking for.

And when you say going rate it's hard to factor that in because depending on the maker, code, year, etc. Factors in different price variables.

If I were you I would study and research more before going the route by spending money on an all matching example. Lot of fakes.

And too answer your original question the most common run of the mill dot 44 or byf 44 all matching k98k rifle usually sell between 1800 and 2000 now.
 
The seller IS a turd monger and buying from him is like a young virgin going on a blind date with a known sex offender.... You are going to get screwed.

First if all my apologies - I should have read the forum rules closer before asking about an ongoing auction f that's against the rules.

This feedback was exactly what I needed to hear, being new to the K98. It seems there are jerks like this selling every type of gun. I can see why people get fooled though when he has such a high rating on GB.

Thanks again for helping me avoid a possible bad decision!
 
I don't consider a well repaired duffle cut to be a deal breaker. Pretty good indicator of a bring back.

Thanks Sheepdog - I think that's kind of the way I would look at it - realistically I'm not going to be buying something for big money that has serious collector value, but I like the idea of it being a rifle actually brought home by one of our boys.

You can find commentary and discuss ongoing auctions at World War II Weapons Forum. Usually anything of note is there.

A duffel cut may be fine for a collector's piece, but if you are considering shooting it, maybe a poor choice as the geometry of the stock is altered, the bedding will never be the same. There is supposed to be slight upthrust on the barrel just before the bayonet lug (though this is sometimes lacking) and the band spring length is set by this dimension. Things tend to shake a bit (sing) at the muzzle after firing. Questionable as to how a repair might hold up. Not all bring backs were duffel cut, some were sneaked back through other means and will retain their stocks whole.

Get ready to spend upwards of 2K. Happy hunting.
