No War Eagles For You!

Picked this frog up from Bruce a while back and thought I might post some pics. Bayonet is an "ab44", frog is marked "rcx". Most of these I see have RB Numbers on them- I added the frog to the bayonet, it just looks so good together! I started (trying) to collect all of the 1944 date bayonets a few years back- it's much harder than it sounds!

That's a great looking "rig" (if bayonets are "rigs").

I used to collect bayonets, had a few really desireable ones, several really early, which is not my normal area of interest.. I had a nearly mint 1937 dated S/239 code, that's a tough catch. (Uncle has it now - I'll get it back someday!) I do want to get back to it, but I want to try to rebuild my decimated rifle collection.

Much like the binos I also collect now, you can get a really nice piece from time to time without breaking the bank, unlike rifles (at least for me, my "bank" is small). I need to find a rivet grip and a phosphate sgx, first off. All I have left is a beat up early EP&S as an example, and a WKC dress bayonet with frog I have had since I was a kid (anyone have an extra felt ricasso pad?)

I love your bayo, and the frog is exceptional. Man, you take great pics, Mike.

No worries, I traded it to Hambone for his old Joke book, such a deal!

got one at an auction 25 years ago, it was on a k98. Had no idea what it was for sure. It wasn;t until ebay came along that I figured out it was actually worth something. It is marked but hard to read.

This one just sold on Ebay.
It seems your upside down f ab44 is not alone.

Glad to see someone else recognize the frog for what I think it is too. Its very easy to tell which standard model frogs were used with folding shovel carriers, as they always develop a sharp bend. I think these frogs are not nearly as "latewar" as most vendors claim and most collectors think, but were likely starting to appear around 42-43 like most "latewar" items were.

Neither seen nor heard of this pattern (or any other) frog bearing the code "rcx". Very cool and a nice rig to boot. Will add the code & frog type to my copy of Carter's BBFs...

This one is very late, the suffix "r" in the 3 digit code is a change applied around October 44 by direct order of the Heeresabnahme. The "q-r-s-t-u-v-y" codes are late 44 to the end of the war. Yet, "rcx" is unknown in my Fertigungskennenseichen book, we'd have to study its construction with known rbnr or full maker marked examples to figure it out 😉

For what it's worth I find the X to really look like the typo on late "cxb" marked leather items, same for the C, maybe we could investigate in that direction.

To me, I'm 99% sure this frog is a Joseph Moll made example, the loop is pebbled could you show the pattern? The thin leather is a BIG indicator of Moll just as the typo of the 3 digit code "rcx".

Stitching pattern and top rivets, looks very similar. Pouch is Rbnr 0/0543/0002 whuch is Moll.
