From the end of the barrel to the receiver is 23 3/4".It was a Gew98...now it is a 98M. It was converted after WW2 by the Germans. It has been sporterized and maybe it has been re-blued. How long is the barrel?
I also wanted to ask if you think $150 is too much for this rifle? It belongs to a friend of mine and I asked him to sell it to me and that's what he wants for it. I kind of suspected it had been sporterized. It was a Gew98...now it is a 98M. It was converted after WW2 by the Germans. It has been sporterized and maybe it has been re-blued. Thank you for the info. I really do like the rifle but I want one that hasn't been sported out. I think I'll give the rifle back to my friend and keep searching for the rifle I want.I merged the three posts to one post, to make it easier to find, - the rifle is actually a Danzig assembled rifle, a sterngewehr as said; it is also an upgraded rifle that was reworked in the early rearmament phase and then probably sold to Spain. It has all the characteristics you usually see.
I also agree with the opinion that $150 is no bargain for such a rifle, though I suspect that is probably what one would expect to pay for one. From a collectors pov, you wouldn't want to buy this rifle, but if you REALLY want to help a friend out, it is probably about the going rate.
