My first Mauser, how did I do?

I could explain all day how awesome this gun is to ahoot and how nice of condition it is in but it wouldn't do any justice.

I have read on this board that AX 41 is an uncommon code. Your rifle looks great. I am not surprised at all that it is a nice shooter. Clean that bore well if using milsurp ammo!

Thanks, I was looking for some thorough cleaning guides. I think the bottom magazine plate is stuck shut.

I normally do a full takedown of the rifle once when I receive it. Any hidden condition issues are revealed and addressed. It is common to disassemble a well used and dirty rifle and find lots of hidden cosmolene. This is the time to clean it properly. Once cleaned, oiled, and reassembled, I don't ever do a full disassembly again. The bore, chamber, follower and bolt are cleaned after shooting. The bolt gets stripped for cleaning as well. Occasional external spray of Rem Oil if it sits for a long time.

The above applies for bolt guns only. Semi-autos take a bit more effort. I don't shoot any semi-auto rifles with corrosive ammo, but bolt guns I definitely do.

I do not claim to be an expert, but these rules of thumb have served me well. Your rifle acquisition is a nice find and it deserves to be well taken care of. With the mountains of K98's destroyed at war's end, the prolific appearances they have made in most conflicts ever since, and all the hacked up sporters there are out there, it is miraculous that so many of them are still in circulation for us to collect and enjoy.

Not enough pictures to give you a proper assessment. We would need to see all of the numbered parts and with decent pictures. With what you provided, the bolt is a mismatch and doesn't match itself.

Congrats on your first K98! Definitely need to see more pictures to know what you have; however, a bolt mismatch with a repro sling is a great place to start and will be a great shooter. The AX code is cool too. Enjoy.

Yes it is. I would still like to see some pictures of the stock stamps and make sure the stock is matching. Pictures of the stock bands and some better pictures of the receiver such as the right side would also help.

And a reproduction sling is not a big deal there are a lot of wartime slings out there for under $100 or less if you wanted to swap it out. But since this is going to be your shooter I use that sling for shooting and buy a wartime sling for collecting.

Regarding slings, they are not very compatible with left handed shooters. As I am one, none of mine are sporting slings. Thankfully you can buy nice repro slings everywhere for around $20.

Nice rifle, sure way better than my first K98k!

I want to find an ax at some point, I even have an Erma stock sitting here waiting for it. It is heavily combat used, but correct. It has excessive wear at the bandspring from being carried in a vehicle weapon rack (Kubel probably). Beat, but unsanded and correct.

I have a 1974 Volkswagen Thing which is close yo a Kubelwagen!

Thanks for then input so far everyone. I will take more and better pictures tonight when I am home from work. Looks like most of the numbers dont match.
