My first K98k dou. 44

Hi all,

Here is the rifle I mentioned in my introduction. I initially thought that it was mis matched having byf parts but after talking to the member Slash and looking through this great site it looks like it may be correct. This rifle was bought back by a local Iowa veteran of the 325th Engineer Combat Battalion and has the original capture papers from March 1945.

The rifle is a ee block dou. 44 and appears to be in great condition. The veteran bought back 2 rifles, one was turned into a sporter and this one looks to have gone into a wardrobe and been left untouched.

Missing the locking screws, though looks as if it may have never had any.

The only marking I could find on the stock is this H

The upper woodwork.

Last pic for now. Thank you for looking and let me know if there are any other details that need to be seen.

Very very nice pictures

Now! try to take the rifle apart and look for serial numbers inside
Remember be careful not to harm the wood:happy0180:

Stock and TG probably not original, but bolt is good. (bands are right, but could be replacements too- right type for this rifle-range)

I agree with Loewe, stock should be unmarked and not numbered in this range. Triggerguard is incorrect as it has 2 E/135 inspections - parts supplied by Mauser (byf) to other makers only had 1 E/135 inspection. Otherwise someone did a good job putting it right. Originally would have unmarked/unnumbered stamped bands like this. I'd say you did great for your first one!

I combined your photos into 1 post to make it easier to view them.

Thank you very much guys! And thank you for combining the posts. The only marking on the stock is that H, the other mark is just a gouge, the top wood just has dou. With the trigger guard I wonder if it was damaged or missing and that's one he could find as I talked to the veterans family today and apparently this is exactly the way this one came back. Also look to be getting some of his US items!

Really nice Jason and great to see all of the additional pics! Also, well done to circle back with the family for the additional items .....
