My first Gewehr 98

Got my first Gewehr 98 a week ago, made in Danzig 1917. Overall in pretty solid shape, appears to be all matching even down to the stock and barrel is solid with some light pitting. Just missing the cleaning rod and locking screws.

Congrats on a nice solid Danzig for your first Gewehr 98! Any chance you can get a picture of the stamps on the right side of the stock? Nice to see matching Gewehrs are still out in the wild, just nowhere near me it seems.

Looks like a solid example. Congrats! It's about as textbook of a late Danzig as you can get-- right down to the barrel code being visible above the wood.
Thank you, I’m so psyched that I got one in all matching condition, i also got two K98s but they were rebuilt post war with different parts, they’re nice but this is more special!

It's so random. I still find woodwork guns, but it's less frequent---That being said I did come home with two really nice german rifles and a kick a$$ bayonet today from the Baltimore show. That's after coming back empty-handed except smalls from that show many times before

Very nice rifle, Mike . . . .

Should you decide to actually shoot it, be advised it will shoot very HIGH!

I place a large sheet of white paper ABOVE the blue aiming point.

In my case, my Amberg G’98 shoots about 18 inches HIGH!

Here are two targets I fired with my handloads:

I always go by this diagram that Bill Reed reed gave me. It works very well. Once you figure it out, surprisingly these are very accurate rifles.

Very nice, the "B" on the stock symbolizes Beech wood, which came into use in 1916.

Congrats on the rifles and bayonet! My local area just seems devoid of anything Imperial, though I probably need to expand my search radius. I've only seen 1 intact non Turked Gewehr 98 in my area over the past 3 years and it was already sold by the time I saw it. It seems that there's nothing in my area and what little that pops up gets snatched instantly considering I don't even see grossly overpriced K98ks like most people seem too.
