Muzzle protector with unknown makers mark

Hi there,

I was able to acquire a Gew 98 muzzle protector for my collection. Well, it might have seen better days, but I found the makers mark interesting. Has anyone seen a logo like this before?

Just curious

Thanks and greetings

T

Very neat logo. I can't recall seeing that one before. There's a good bit of diversity with these. Danzig made a bunch, but plenty of smaller contractors are also out there.

Thanks for posting.

you can't have enough of them, can you??!!

Here a close up.

many thanks for your kind reply!

B, this one looks unique so far as I have trended them, and this I started in 2002 or before, - this is a trademark I have not seen before, though it looks like GZG and Wolfgang discovered a similar grouping of letters on the inside of a G98 lid, attached, his also sported a C/B.

**I kept looking at it and it baffles me as to the central character? F or a wine glass? Maybe a few more beers will give me a better idea... I am half tempted to dig through Darrin Weaver's trademarks book... but I have gone down that rabbit hole a dozen times and you could spend days searching German trademarks - and "association" of item to potential company products has endless variables... in this time frame German and US firms were incredibly diverse and dynamic, the wars doubled the tendency... mostly because it distorts industrial trends, the bigger the war the larger the distortions. (Even in the US, during both wars, incredible regulations crippled firms if they didn't or couldn't conform, - raw material, labor and capital regulations destroyed many small firms and entrepreneurs. Wars benefit no one but government, politicians, bureaucrats, large banks and industrial conglomerates... )

You and me both Paul ...... I've been focusing on the ones found on the Tankgewehr 1918 and bipods and it's quite the chore.

I have a Polish one with probably a polish manufacture mark M2. Its a brass one. Never seen one like this in Brass. Must be early. Any help would be most appreciated.

I see these with some frequency.... I believe the name on the front is the manufacturer. Kranc & Lempicki Iirc. They made Gew98 and 98a lids in both brass and steel inte...rwar.
... and somebody made some from sheet metal

(assuming this is Polish; but what else could it be??)

My understanding is that the stamped 98a covers were TR era police (at least from my conversations with Amberg/Wolfgang). I have one that came on a police 98a.

Ah, interesting! They are later than the milled ones, there's no doubt about it. But I was wondering what this tiny mark could mean. It's not a WaA, it's not a maker's mark, and if it's an acceptance mark of some kind, it seems to be quite close to the Polish ones (which are quite distinctive, though, I know I know ...). And as the number is of a pattern you can find on Polish rifles, I considered it to be of Polish origin.
Are there any known with German markings?

Mine is devoid of markings-- these are the only pictures I have handy of it. They are pretty rare-- only have seen a handful- and usually with some police context. If they were strictly police, they would have fallen outside of the WaA system, though I would have expected some sort of marking-- though plenty of other things that were totally unmarked.

Maybe these were originally produced in Poland and production continued on a small scale under occupation. Flat guess though.

I've seen Polish ones made by Kranc and Radom; both were stamped with the maker's mark on the lid. So no space for a number of any kind there. There are no German Karabiner with a 5-digit number, but there are Polish ones.

Was this the one that was sold on eBay recently (I think in June)? If so you outbid me

Yes it is Polish. It is hard to find these in non-relic condition.

There is one on eBay currently with some interesting markings. Can anyone ID them and country of origin?

Immediately after WW1, Reichswehr units that wanted to mark their stuff asked for advice and were told to use positions hitherto not designated.
