Cleaned up a parts kit I recently bought, was a nice dark brown, turned out it was mostly old cosmoline, but beside the point. I’m cleaning up found this stamping on the front, curious if anyone knows what it is/means.

Thanks in advance!

Dumb question, what would tip you off that it is bogus? Were mp40s not marked in this fashion? I know some of its previous history and we’ll say markings wouldn’t have made it any more valuable.

My opinion. and the fact that to my knowledge in 80 years since the end of the war an SS marked mp40 has never been observed. Nor does the marking type make any sense as I said it usually shows up on the dress items and leather. Also the more you know about what and how and when the ss marked weapons the less sense this makes.

But I’ve been wrong before and I’m sure I will be again, my $0.02.
I appreciate the insight, I looked up the total ss and it was something like 5500 produced over both mp38 and mp40 so I would tend to agree that more than likely fake. Though know what the marking is now I’m going to have to dig into it further ha.

Indeed. Also found on ss officer sword scabbard throats, dagger hangers etc
Interesting - if a guy was going to fake something you’d think the standard death head would be the go to. First I’d seen this, not sure where to start digging, but I’ll poke around.
