Maybe Fake Green Zf41 scope can on epay

I think it is an original can. I can't say for sure about the leather strap, that could be a replacement. But I think the can is original.

Reproduction vs Original Cases

There are a number of reproductions on the market, which over time, have been reproduced to a very high standard. There are a number of minor variations between original and reproduced cases, but the most visible difference is on the back of the case, where the belt strap is secured. Original cases will always have three strap rivets. The shape of the steel holder has a slight curve, which is missing from all current reproductions. The one on epay is not in my estimation.but who knows. Mdarnell.

SVW45, yes I am well aware of the quality of reproductions. I also don't typically like to use a dealer's website as my source. Dealers are not a reliable source for information. The can on ebay is an early example and I still believe it has a chance of being original. But as always, I could be wrong. I would love to see it hand.

Word of advice, be careful when claiming an absolute. While zf41 cans typically have 3 rivets holding the strap on that does not mean that all do. Again, this is an early can and utilizes a leather strap.

Perhaps other collectors with early examples in their collections can weigh in and share pictures.

Here are 2 others that are earlier cans with leather strap. on this forum. Round bottom. Where strap is riveted. Maybe there is one that is not rounded. But I have not seen one yet. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this,

I don't think you can use that curve to authenticate a can. It is the result of forming the offset in the plate and will have variations. Here is an image of a can on RJ Militaria's sight that is shown as an original....there is no curve.

Peter I have that style in my collection to. Which came with my rifle in 1982. I'm sure there are different styles. Just like Darrell said need more info from others on here. I'm just not a fan of the on listed on epay. especially the note

The leather strap is definitely a problem as well as the rivets securing it but I think the can itself may be original. I don't recall anyone ever faking one with the internal hinge. He would not supply images of the interior.

Hello, the first green box presented with leather strap is indeed a reproduction. On the original boxes, the strap rivets are still visible. In addition, this box has all the characteristics of a very early model, namely: Leather strap and lid hinge inside the box. Except the box clasp is a simplified late model. It's timeless This is not compliant. Photo to follow.

I,m glad someone else seen what saw.

This is forming up as an excellent thread. However, when that ePay link dies so does much of the value of the thread. Could yall please post all of the auction pics including a screen shot of the auction so this thread has value after the ePay auction link is done? Thank you.

Here are the photos of the repro zf41 can with black leather strap. You can see the latch button has rounded edges on the plate attached to the can picture #8. Picture 7 is a comparing the latches The one on the left is the repro can has the later catch. Where it should have the one on the right. Picture #9 has the has the jvd mark with the waffen ampt . The ampt should not be there for the early cans. Picture #10 shows the 3 rivets straight across, Real cans have the center rivet a tid higher Not straight across. Picture # 11 Shows the flat bottom of the strap holder, Should be slightly rounded . Picture #12 shows the inside of can lid showing the trap door ,The one that is not ribbed is the repro one, the other one on the right is a original one. Picture #13 shows no marking of the square with 2 xx,s in it. Real one,s will have that marking. Any one else can shed light on this one. I did get extra photos from the one on epay, Thats how I compared this can with a real one. In some of the photo,s. Hope this helps others.
