Mauser sniper (byf) with short side rail

Hello all together,

I found this rifle to sell. Would be nice to know what you think about.

What I know, it is a Mauser (byf) K98, produced for the SS. There are stamps of the Hauptzeugamt 4 with skull and bones at the receiver, beside the serial number.

It has a late side mount and an AJACK "Dienstglas" with skull and bones.

Some of the parts has the same serial number.

The white spots are just SS insignia which are covered (Yes, sure, we are crazy in Germany!)

What confuses me is the different numbers at the receiver/mount and the glas. Could it be a glas which was installed about damage of the original?

As well, the pin at the upper mount base looks not original. Maybe, it is a civilian upper mount? (I know this single pin from the Carl Gustafs sniper mounts which are side mounts of German production, too.

Thanks a lot!

Oliver

To Mdarnell,

yes, I remember Sauer & Son produced rifles with that mount and took them out of their own production. Of course the SS used some G98 for K98 conversion and built sniper rifles of excellent pieces out of their depots.

Thanks for your advice!

Recently been showed the same rifle .. the mount is fake too. Also there should not be a sniper safety on SSR. And as already mentioned no SSR for a byf code. Finally, SSZZA4 would be SS repair and should be located on the barrel and not on the receiver. Someone put a lot of work into this rifle, but not into researching what would be correct and what not.

Edit .. oh, the SS Dienstglas marking is also fake. Note the scope has traces of once having had Suhler Claw rings soldered to the tube.

Thank you gentlemen, for your quick and expert information!

The sniper rifle with SSR mount is one of the most faked sniper models. So, my skepticism was justified.
