Mauser G 33/40 questions

Hello All, New to the forum here. I inherited a rifle and don’t know anything about it. Was wondering if someone on here could help know what I have and a potential value. It looks like is missing a barrel band or something and the forend and the ladder site and a red field rear site installed. The numbers on the action and bolt do match.

You have a G33/40 from the first year of production. Unfortunately someone decided to modify it. As mentioned the rear sight ladder is missing and a commercial peep sight has
been added, necessitating drilling into the receiver. The stock is not correct for a G33/40, it appears to be a modified VZ-24 stock, but I am viewing on a small phone screen so I could be mistaken. The matching barreled action is nice and the missing rear sight components and a stock can be found, although they are not cheap. The missing rear sight piece was not numbered, but the original stock would have been numbered to the rifle. If the receiver had not been drilled for the peep sight, the rifle would have been a good candidate for a restoration, and would probably be worth $800 to $1000, but the drilled receiver probably cuts the value in half. These valuations are just my opinion, and I would encourage you to get advice from other collectors as well if you intend to sell.

Good luck.

Not that it really matters with this rifle, but as an FYI, the rear sight leaf on 1940 is numbered on the backside.

In the meantime the OP has listed the rifle on Gunbroker with a pretty optimistic starting price.

Thank you for the information all. The last post is correct I posted it yesterday shortly after making my original post on here and had posted it for less than the others that were on there. I have since updated the price after learning some of this new information. It is probably optimistic and still on the high side but I’m going to try it there and see if anything happens.
