Mauser DSM trainer question

Hi Fellas,

Recently acquired a nice trainer from a friend (my first one) and was wondering what the correct sling would be for these trainers if any..also wondering if there are muzzle covers for these 22LR trainers like on the 98’s? I understand my best bet would be to purchase a copy of Simpson’s book but with the wealth of knowledge on here figured it was worth the effort to ask.
Thanks in advance for any replies!
Derek.

the right answer for you may depend on your intended use, if only for display you might find a correct original, but if you plan to handle it much, a repro or ‘reasonable facsimile’ of strong leather may serve better.

There are muzzle protectors. I once had a very nice JGA with original muzzle protector. A muzzle protector is an expensive piece to find.

I do not plan on handling a lot other than just looking at it..Mostly was wondering if they made a special sling for these? I assume they are not readily available if they don’t come with a rifle? An original would be the ticket for this gun. Thank you for your response!

Thanks for the info Frankie I appreciate it, I kind of figured that would be a tougher item to find as they aren’t cheap for the 98’s either. But all in all, they did produce that accessory specifically for the trainers?

The one shown on the bottom is for a DSM. The one on top is for a Banner K.

both are very hard to find and in the correct hands the pair may cost as much as what we have paid for complete rilfes.. Accessories are expensive. Of course a temporary lesser priced option is use a 98k cover and sling if you must have these on the rifle. they will fit and work. Constant searching for years sometimes is the only this that works finding these items.. Dumb luck doesnt hurt either !! :p

I suppose they are, never really thought much about these training rifles in the past kind of overlooked them..now that I have one and doing some more research, they are actually quite beautifully made and a lot of different makers, variations, etc that make them very collectible. Also they’re a cool part of history that I never really knew about. Fun stuff.

This. But have you looked at a trainer and gone damn that’s a nice trainer sling or OMG it’s a real KKW cleaning rod and seriously been like uh hmm I could get the rifle just for the sling or rod and flip the rifle… but then you never flip it because even when you have 50 it’s never enough? Swear to god I haven’t done this swear.

Just repeating what's quoted .... great stocks (basically walnut & elm), and sometimes property/ provenance marks (ie., DRP, SS, SA, HJ). Ten years ago I was quietly promoting trainers as under appreciated/ valued as there's lots to love.

Does anyone have or know where I may purchase a complete bolt assembly for a "Deutsche Sportmodell" Training Rifle? I have one that is without a bolt assembly. The rifle is manufactured by Geco (DSM-34). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
