Hello everyone,

New here! Recently purchased a K98, although have owned a few RC's in the past. The stock has been entirely re-sanded and my suspicion is that this may be Mitchell K98. I, to be honest do not mind if it is a mitchells as I got it at a very low price below most RC's nowadays. A little bit about me, I am a casual shooter(not collector) who was looking for something that shot well but wasnt too fancy, so a shiny RC was perfect for me. However, I want to make sure that it was indeed a genuine GERMAN K98 and not some Yugo that has FALSE German stamps on it. So that is why I am here today! I do believe parts are force-matched as well- do not care if parts match as long as they are somewhat genuine! Please let me know what you guys think! Thanks in advance everyone! Attached photos in next post!

Well it is indeed a wartime 'German' K989k (or was originally) but it was made in Považská Bystrica in northwest Slovakia under Nazi occupation and supervision. Most likely not one part other than the barreled action started life with this rifle and all have been refinished and restamped. It is also likely most of the parts are genuine German although they could be from any era or manufacturer. As a shooter/reenactor piece these are fine, especially if you get one at a very nice price. Zero collector value which shouldn't bother you.

Great, thanks a lot for the input! So it is likely that the eagles and markings originated in Bystrica? I have been doing some research and it appears to compare to other examples that came from there. Certainly refinished as you said too.

Markings mostly original, though some components may have been renumbered.

Someone gave it a pimp shine. Can't make out the import mark in the first pic but it looks like a MM CA. Hope you didn't pay too much for it but Mitchell's make decent shooters most of the time.

Yes, I believe it is. Took a second look at it today, they are MM -import marks-. Thats why I was questioning the authenticity of the eagles. Im sure the numbers were re-done by Mitchell but Eagles look original to the barrel section.
