Clever design. In several respects it seems a more utlitarian contrivance than those the U.S. fielded.
 
glad to see you got it. That was installed in many open top vehicles to hold a K98k.

Rommel in a Kublewagon comes to mind you can see the top of the holder in that photo. Uber cool k98 accessory
 
Once saw a collectors byf 43 that had indications of being clamped in one of these... IIRC, there was compression of wood, and some rubber round shadow left on the buttplate...
 
Isn't the reason they changed to a smaller stock (top to bottom) on the MP44 was so they would fit in these?
 
Loved those in my Kubel and Kommandeurwagen.. Interesting factoid,..The one pictured is the type 2 design and the type one can be found in the Austrian Pinzgauers! I helped convert 6 M412s for Redbull and was surprised when I saw them. As Amberg pointed out above.
