Matching D-day vet bring back S/27 with helmet and flags

The owner of a local gun shop I frequent has had this for over a year and I was finally able to trade him a couple of guns and cash for this lot. This came from a deceased D-day vet who lived in Fall River and was a member of the 336th combat battalion. He kept a ton of items including pictures, maps, flags , a helmet and the duffel cut s/27. I had a question about what the flag and other piece of cloth is and it appears that the helmet has a black overpaint? I am just starting to go through everything and read what he provided on his combat battalion. Excited to get these pieces!

The helmet's an M35 originally double decal and subsequently period repainted. Stunning collection!

nice grouping.. the helmet is a standard overpainted M35dd. the flag is odd ??? Not sure if its real or not ? But, if it is Id say its a Der Stahlhelm flag of some type. The rug or frilled item is a grain sack that have been spiffed up ! looks great. The crown of the collection is the ERMA.

I am a little/lot envious of your luck.

The helmet is a M35 DD overpaint, possibly a post war (1945 plus) paint for police/allied occupied Germany. The Allied invasion letter appears to be a reprint due to the paper. It should be a very poor quality newsprint type paper. I can't comment on the flags. The medals are standard era to 1946 era medals one would receive after service.

Nice grouping. The flag looks ok to me. There were slight variations in design that were used by the different factions of Der Stahlhelm. The Swastika was added in 1933 when the organization joined the Nazi Party. In 1935 Der Stahlhelm was absorbed by the NSDAP.
I believe you are showing the reverse (back) side of the flag in your pic. Can you show us the front?
