Matching BCD 4 Long Side Rail 83600

I have been chasing this rifle since I saw it in a Shotgun News Article about German Sniper Rifles 12 years ago. Finally came up for auction at Rock Island this month. I had the matching scope to the rifle from a LSR purchase about 14 years ago maybe. I have kept the scope hoping rifle would turn up for sale since I tried to contact the author with no response. A once in a lifetime occurrence probably. Wouldn't post it, but thought it was an interesting story and its now known rifle matches now. The rifle is a perfect BCD LSR rifle in every way. A main activity of mine is searching for these things and its great when it works out. At least sometimes dreams come true occasionally. Makes the work of keeping track of this stuff and searching worth it.

Nice rig! I have been in a similar position twice where I was the "nexus" of matching up both a bcd 4 LSR and bnz 4 single claw... but for another collector! More than a dozen years ago, one guy bought a LRS and when we discussed it on the phone, told him I once owned his matching scope mount and knew where it was. I put him in touch and he got the matching mount. Strangely, the same guy acquired my single claw which originally came to me sans optic. Through my contacts got a commensurate "dkl" scope with original (but mismatched) rings to complete the rifle. My fellow collector said if I ever wanted to let it go, to LHK. Forward 25 years to 2010 and I made the call. He took the piece and had it until a year or so ago, when he found another single claw in excellent condition like mine. It, too, was mismatched, but the optic/rings on my former rifle matched the other. So he had to buy it and let my rifle go...

I notice the mount matches but not the scope. Are scopes like bayonets where the serial number won't match the mount/rifle?

Thanks for your interest. No the scope itself is a separate serial number based on its type and period made. In this case a late war BMJ LSR Scope. LSR Scopes never have a rifle serial like the mount itself.

However, SS SSR Scopes will be numbered to match mount and rifle as well as have their distinct manufacturer serial number.

Thanks for the info! Rookie question for sure haha, but with the amount of fakes and the cost of genuine examples, I haven't bothered to learn a thing about snipers.

Congrats Herc, your dedication has paid off. And, it pays off for all of us to enjoy as well! Thanks for sharing this. Glad to see a successful reunion.
