So I just picked up my first luger and naturally want to shoot it. I do want to replace the original firing pin for shooting.

I did some looking and see originals and reproductions for sale what are the good/quality reproductions or better off using another original? In case it matters is 1936 S/42

Thanks

IMO the extractor on a Luger combined with its coil spring rates as about the most robust and dependable extractor design that I can think of on any automatic pistol. The firing pin is extremely unlikely to break unless dry fired too much, I recommend never!
What is important is the possible damage due to a punctured primer. Depending on the exact nature of the puncture several bad things can happen most of them involving damage to the breech block! Be sure to use a post 1920s designed fluted firing pin as that design will bleed gas jetting into the firing pin hole turning an unflutted pin into a power piston that blows out the rear of the breech block. I would say using quality reasonable power name brand ammo is your best protection assuming gun toggle and receiver are matched (headspace is good) and 1930s/40s Mauser pieces are very well made and fitted so problems due to defects in that regard see about nil
