Hello everyone,

Im looking to get a nice P-38 and Luger soon but want to get good reference books. What do you recommend? So far I have “Lugers at Random” and “The P38 Pistol” but are there any really in-depth books?

Thank you!

”The P.38 Pistol Spreewerk Production by Jan Balcar and Ron Clarin
(This book is mainly about Spreewerk production but there’s so much more in it that pertains to all wartime P.38’s)

I didn’t know if you have Warren Buxton’s “The P.38 Pistol” trilogy or “The P.38 Pistol” by Alexander Krutzek?
But both of these are excellent.

”Fateful Years” by Wolf Dietrich N. Roth is also a great book, but it is not exclusively P.38’s but good wartime history of the Walther plant.

For Luger, the Jan Still books are very dated but still useful. Think of it like the Backbone of the Wehrmacht (though not as bad). They are very expensive though.

The Gortz Luger book is excellent (don't get the Collector Grade Publishing version) but it is less collector focused. It has a few issues, but overall it's good.

Most other Luger books are trash.

I will second Tiger 2 Tanks recommendation for P.38 books, I have all in my collection and they are great references. Buxton I will say is nearing collectible status as opposed to referenced but it does still contain som good information.

Lugers THE MAUSER PARABELLUM is awesome for Mausers but costly. I let my copy go and it was a deal at 350.
