Looking for any extra info on this 98k

Only now wishing I had gotten more pictures while at the shop as I learn how colorful k98 histories are. So this is the only one I have for now. Will try and get more later on.

I assume It's something like an RC as does not seem to look like a lot of Mausers on here, and my date code seems to be the only thing on the receiver, while my 660 code is more on the barrel.

Only other info I had at the time was its serial was 9054, and stock no was EB7-16 (I'm not sure if that was his inventory number or something else.) And he wanted around $500 for it

And for all these so called fake 98k's. Does that just mean they where all just refurbished and resold years after capture to look like they where issued and what not, but still a real k98 at heart. Or there something along the line of kieber pass cobbled k98's out there?

Interesting that the year was stamped, but no mfg code. Hopefully you can get more photos.

Yeah, I might have to wait until Monday if the shop owner does not get back to me by morning. The guy I buy from is only open 4 days a week and spends the weekend selling and buying at shows.

Not an RC go back and get more photos! Either a post war put together or something much more interesting. These can sell fast so don't wait too long.

I was going to say, based on what I can see, I would have bought it for $500, unless there are un presented issues.

Looks like an interesting rifle.

nice.. the 1940 i figured was Mauser. The 660 barrel is a steyr ordinance spare. Some sort of depot build.. These dont turn up often and I cant recall seeing a dated receiver with NO code.

Just now noticing some of the pictures came out a bit bad. But this was most of the details I was able to notice as I looked it over again.

Bore on it was also really nice. And I had him put it in the back for me when I first saw it, so I'm not worried about it vanishing. And for the price, I guess what ever it turns out being It should be a nice thing to plink 8mm with lol.

Strange rifle, the receiver has been so polished that the « Mod 98 » is faint. The front band does not have the same serial number « 9054 », apparently. Kriegsmodell stock. What about the markings of the rear sight ? Any stamped eagles on the stock ?

No eagles any where that I could See. Which is what made me a bit interested in it to begin with.

Though It looks like there are peen marks where and eagle might have been on the receiver. But the whole rifle just seems devoid of really any markings.

Those were my thoughts too. The stock does not look like 1940... rather Kriegsmodell.

really Strange 98

Alright, its been a minute. But I Just picked the rifle up back on Monday and just got around to tearing into it to get it ready for some cleaning. And found some more interesting bits.

I'm honestly impressed on the rifling quality. (The same for the Enfield, its just as pristine.)

But yeah, Watching some videos I seem to have a mix of early/mid production with a little late war parts around it. And a lot of markings polished away. I notice where there should be the eagle stamped on the receiver, its been not only peened where the swastika might have been, like a lot of them; But ground away. There is a small polished divit where it should be.

And I can now freely grab more pictures, and some better ones that are in focused when needed.
