Looks like gun Jesus just dropped a video on SS contract K98K's. Haven't watched all of it yet but will finish watching it when I get on break again.

I wonder what source material he is using, cause I believe he made some mistakes in that video.

The primary one is the connection between the rune and factory of origin. Ian states that any rune marked receiver (or component) means it was produced outside of the Gusen KL system. But obviously thats not the case. Plenty of Gusen manufactured receivers were rune marked… including the one featured in his video…

EDIT: also, after rewatching the video, I realized he made the classic gun show lore error of implying that Gusen was a full on production facility. Final production took place at main Steyr facilities, not Gusen.

3/10 for Ian.

One reason why I shared this is because I was curious if he actually would be correct on his info or not. I also noticed that the example used was a Gusen manufactured receiver due to the large font but still got the single rune which makes that action (according to Mr.Farb from another thread) abit uncommon, really is a shame the stock is mismatched.

I have nothing against Ian he does make some of good content. However there are plenty of his videos that you can see the "cracks and holes". Seems to just be reciting information he just read.
Lately his vids remind of a two sided brochure....hits the main points with little context followed by the occasional *. Just enough to leave plausible deniably on his part.

I stopped paying attention to Ian once he became a shill for Royal Tiger Imports. Whether deliberately or not, he helped screw a lot of collectors out of a lot of money by giving legitimacy to the RTI crew.

Does this apply to the MGs as well?
A listed item is only as good or legitimate as the consignor selling it.
My experience with Morphy on a big ticket transferable in particular has been excellent. Nothing hidden and no BS at least on what I was interested in.
I requested many images before the auction and they promptly sent me everything I requested.
Bruce is absolutely spot on as auction houses are usually loaded with turds galore and second rate stuff to
especially include faked SS related items with limited information and limited images.
Many times it's the same consignor unloading his :poop:, so many times a whole bunch of the items will be bad.
Like anything else, it's on the buyer to know what he's bidding on and auction houses can be the absolute worst.
If you are truly interested in something, especially a big ticket item, I suggest you request information and images beforehand.

I have had good success in years past at Morphys. I picked up few nice WW2 pistols , and a few rifles. All but one was good, a dou 44 that was listed as all matching. When I got it home and disassembled it, I found the stock not matching. Morphy’s gave me my money back in full when I returned it the following week.

I will add, if you are local you inspect the firearms you want to purchase prior to the auction. After the dou I won that had issues I did this. The last time I went they even disassembled a P38 and a K98 so I could verify that they were indeed matching.

Yeah, the mistakes in this video were disappointing. Seems the only YouTube channel that's professionally researched is C&Rsenal. They'll even re-edit and update entire episodes if they find mistakes or important info that was left out in the first run.

I have difficulty watching any of the FW vids, too carnival barky for my tastes. Probably because I was a purchasing agent & have listened to thousands of ‘pitches’. My BS radar has a low threshold. I feel the same about hunting vids, they show some incredible deer, but the “blah blah blah” in the tree stand or blind spoils it for me. STFU !!
