Longtime g43 owner, just joined site

(dup post from intro forum ) Hi all, I acquired a g43 back in the early 90s. Didn't know much about it but have been motivated to learn more about it recently. I've put an adjustable gas tube in and was able to finally send a few rounds down range with it last week. Had two mis-fires and ended up finding out the firing pin was broke, new one on the way but otherwise a joy to shoot. There are a few themed CMP events at my local range I hope to participate in.....but that 8mm is not cheap! A few pics....

Reloading is the answer to shooting any obsolete firearms.
8mm brass can easily be made from 30-06 brass

I've made more than my fair share of 8mm brass just because of the mountains of .30-06 brass I've got sitting around from shooting up a bunch of Greek HXP, but frankly unless you're sitting on a big pile of brass to convert and it's a good way to save money there's no reason to go to the trouble in this day and age. Factory made 8mm brass is really easy to get. You can get Prvi all day long for ~.$80 a piece, new. That stuff is a tad brittle but annealing between reloadings extends the life significantly. Once you're into $1/piece a ton of options open up for some really high quality brass.

Welcome. Nice rifle. I keep a serial number listings of these rifles. Your rifle falls where the qve45 stamped rifles were mixed in with the duv44 rifles. After your rifle’s serial number, the next rifle reported (rather known to exist) is K.43 qve45 #279k. That rifle was reported on this forum for sale on 06-16-2018. Kinda neat. -Kelly

Thanks Kelly, I came upon Claus Espeholt's site while looking for a firing pin (which led me here) and have shared the serial number with him as well.

And yes, the 8mm ammo isn't terrible, right there with new 30-06 and 30-30 for my old Remington 700 bdl and Marlin, not nearly as bad as ammo for my 300 Savage.

if you must shoot a g/k43 get a new spring kit and shooters kit. Save the rifle if its all matching you are risking a good chunk of cash as matching really nice examples are now over 4k again..

Hi Kelly.
You can record mine also, if you wish. A G43 duv 44 #1092k, I live in Denmark.
Chris.
