A couple of years ago I picked up this mount off Gunbroker as it looked to have the features of an original mount, but I paid around $250 for it as it was a buy it now item out of a deceased gunsmiths estate. Ive gotten mixed reviews on it from outright repro to bad mount good base, all good but replaced lever. I had it on the for sale section but pulled it after Paul expressed concerns. So here it is, there is also an identical rig on Ebay today same V suffix, so may well be the next generation of fakes,,,either way lets get to it! Extra photos on request.

I'm leaning on it being ok. But, to be 100% sure Id prefer to have it in hand and compare it to a good known original. I figured Id at least post my opinion since it's been viewed 33 times and no one has spoke up.
The u and v block would be correct for the milled ring upper on a JPS LSR.

Thanks

Yep sorta dead topic,,,Ive had luck with those suffixes in past but that doesnt mean bad guys arent learning. Slides together like two sticks of butter,,,Thanks as usual Mauser

Hello,

like the set on ebay that some one plopped a huge 2650 bid from canada on the mount and base are repro's you both even have the 1 stamped in the same location. the proof mark is also not correct on the style needed on these. the screws are very much like the new Czech mount screws being made with the locking screws being incorrect profile. all the machining process are not correct and look to be surface ground. the original were made on a shaper.

I must confess I also had thoughts about the mount which I wrote to the owner privately before this thread was opended. The lever is definitely not original and I also do not like the rest very much, partly for the same reasons Vaughn wrote. Further, the numbers do not look sharp, rather like mount was reworked after stamping, for which normally there is no need. I like Texasbadger and therefore refrained from giving a statement, but the mount is what it is. However, it is astonishing that even though with much information at hand so few see. It all comes down to that what a senior collector told me when I was a young and unexperienced collector, namely that you must have had enough original items in your hand until a inner view forms which gives you the right feeling. Well, I do not fully believe in feelings, but I have five of these mounts at home, which help me form an opinion.

I read the two posts and want to thank you for responding. One thing that really doesn't make sense and I cant wrap my head around is the statement. " I like texas badger so I refrained from giving a statement".

The only thing that makes a great forum is contributions from People posting and responses from other members. If someone posts an item and 33 people read the thread and no one responds what good is that ?

I guess I was wrong and I'm glad it was cleared up. I also know there are members here sitting on a 1/2 dozen of these rigs and it would of only taken a short time to look at one and make a response.

I personally have handled a few and there are minute details that have to be observed in the machining to tell as fake from a real one. The photos weren't good enough for me to be 100% sure.

I'm glad it's been cleared up.

LSR Mount

Hey Guys, its all good, I paid a repro price for it, knew it came out of a gunsmiths estate, but took a chance anyway! So its nice repro for a repro build. Glad its been settled. I may have a BCD4 sporterized sniper rifle coming in and wanted to be certain before beginning restoration.

Thank you!

We all hoped Steve had a good rig. I did not respond, even though I have an X block mount but no pictures handy, and I was simply unsure(but concerned I must say). I hope I have learned to keep hush if I am not pretty darn sure, at least I am working on it. Good news is that he does not have original price/money tied up in it.

As usual, we are very lucky to have a wide variety of folks that know many things plus some more specific things. Thanks for the chance to learn more.

Summer is a little hectic. I just saw this. I would say it is really nice reproduction just as it has been stated here already. However, it is always good to see as many examples as possible for learning purposes.

Bought one about 3 weeks ago that also had a dow rig in it....It also was a v block...looks identical to yours...I bought it for the dow as it was a good price and the seller listed it as a repop

Mine came with a base also...but I can attest to the fact that that an original base will not slide onto it..

Definitely a fake imo

Something looks wrong on it, not sure why and what. Might be wrong, but I wouldn't buy it as an original.

That set on Ebay was interesting. It originally sold from Europe to Canada for 2k and then within a month the Canadian buyer flipped in on Ebay.

I wasn't happy with it. The scope looked nice and the package would make a great looking reproduction or restoration Sniper - but thats about it.
