The Schutzmannschaft, or Auxiliary Police (lit. "protection team"; plural: Schutzmannschaften,[nb 1] abbreviated as Schuma) was the collaborationist auxiliary police of native policemen serving in those areas of the Soviet Union and the Baltic states occupied by Nazi Germany during World War II. Heinrich Himmler, head of the Schutzstaffel (SS), established the Schutzmannschaft on 25 July 1941, and subordinated it to the Order Police (Ordnungspolizei; Orpo).[

The Germans did not want to use local collaborators on a large scale as they were deemed to be unreliable and inferior (Untermensch).[16] However, the rapid German advance in the Eastern Front and manpower shortages forced Germans to reconsider. Therefore, on 25 July 1941, Reichsführer-SS Himmler authorized creation of Schutzmannschaft.[17] wikipedia

Dutch M38 reworked for German auxiliaries with M31 liner installed backward with special brackets.

Really nice, I like the overall patina. Hopefully it doesn’t end up camoed , wired or with a decal, or all.

Quist M40 T1453. MSS44 rivets, 44 dated RBNr. chinstrap. This has a very smooth finish unlike combat paint leading me to suspect this is a phosphate coating. In the direct sunlight it has a green hue. The liner band is 1943 Litzmannstadt. The liner tie string is made of a twisted material seen on other very late helmets. I used the parcel forwarding company 'Forward2Me' to get this from Germany as the seller would not ship outside of the EU. Thanks to all for their advice. From Tecklenburg Germany.

EDIT: There was also an appearance of black ink on liner stamps late in the war, different from the traditional blue ink.

I have found phosphated helmets with markings from each of the 5 German helmet factories. It was an industry-wide phenomenon.

Is it just the lighting or is one liner pin rounded and the other flat?
