Late 44 BCD 4 phosphate. Some questions.

I have a BCD 4 rifle that I think was made in late 44. Only the bolt and barrel were numbered. Sadly this one is a bolt m/m. Ser. # is 333xx.

It seems that there are some other BCD guns that are only ser. # on the bolt and barrel. Is this common or somewhat rare?

I think this was made in 11/44. Does that seem correct?

Any other info on these that might be interesting?

Lastly, I find myself needing to raise some $$ due to health issues with my daughter. I'm trying to avoid selling my German guns but I might need to let some go. I was told a value on this that I thought was high, $1700-2K. Is that reasonable? What is a reasonable price on it? If I am forced to sell it, I will do a collector to collector price which would be lower.

Thanks.

ser # type is 100% as time went on byf and bcd started serial numbering less and less parts. Yes just the barrel and bolt parts is correct. Stock looks a bit treated but not sanded. I cant comment on value but , I think your guess is high.
A nice one just sold by Larry all matching about 24-2500 I usually say a MM bolt is about half value of completely matching in the same condition.

The metal condition looks quite good and the cutouts on the stock, the bolt cutout in particular look quite crisp.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking that $1250 or so was more in line.

Stock was not sanded or aggressively cleaned up but it might have some mild cleaning done.

FWIW, there's a beauty in the pic stickie about 1000 after yours to give you some idea of what's what.

Yes that would be absolutely correct. Full 5 digits on barrel, 4 digits on bolt body and collar and last 2 digits on the other bolt parts. No other serial numbered parts. The letter subcontractor codes should be there on most parts.

I think later in October or November is correct.

Care to share the barrel code?

Thanks for the info. I will do that tomorrow. Getting late here now.

Hey Mech, Fireman has passed this rifle on to me and I'm quite happy with it. I took it apart this last weekend, the code on the barrel is avk Br with WaA 13 and the star proof. Also, to help with dating, the stock stamp under the buttplate appears to have code Br and dates to November 10, 1944 (5 45 4).

Other interesting bits I noticed: the follower is a WaA 135, not lxr. The rear sight has a faint "4" stamped above WaA 18 and I could not see the "i". The right side of the barrel, underneath the rear sight, has an "a" and WaA 18.
