There are more than a couple of you guys on the forum that I asked for your opinion on this rifle before I decided to really try to go after it on GB. There are a couple of you that gave me some encouragement threw texts down the stretch while I bid back and forth with one of our favorite dealers🙄…. I haven’t been around the game near as long as MOST of you guys, but I have been around long enough to know that these don’t come up for sale very often. These Simson rifles have been something that I have looked for since buying the books and really discovering them. This example is all matching outside of the hand guard and the cleaning rod. The rear trigger guard screw seems to be stamped twice, 69 and 69 on each side of the screw driver slot which seems odd….. Please ask if you want to see or know more about the rifle that I have missed. Paul mentioned in our messages about this rifle that it was not in his database….

Great rifle Jory! I'm liking it a lot. Great salty, but not abused look to it. Glad you didn't let go and gave in to the collective peer pressure that you were no doubt being pilloried with!

Congratulations on getting one of the harder models!

Wonderful 98b Jory, and I will have to add a little something to this thread later for you. I think you will like it, and it goes prefect with this 98b. I'll be honest. I was hoping you were not going to get bid up so high by our favorite dealer. Still you won the auction in the end. And it went to a collector that would enjoy this elusive rifle, instead of a dealer.

Not to mention that dealer was just going to turn around and flip it in the next few weeks.

Thanks Chris.. it’s definitely not a virgin😎
After looking the tread over on my computer, just going to add a couple pics that I want in the thread…

Nice to see an intact 98b go to someone on the forum instead of a dealer! Definitely has a been there, done that look to it. What's the Waffenamt number on the stock below the serial number?

That’s a nice solid 98b! Completely unmessed with. Congratulations sir! You’re getting an admirable group together.
Thanks Rick! I appreciate the kind words
For you Jory. This neat 98b picture came in the mail last week.

Good photo Jordan, seems like you have a photo for every occasion on the forum….photos are your second favorite item to collect?

Not sure… the stock is really worn and dark. The rifle is a survivor, but well used…. I still think it’s great though
I saw this one come up glad you got it Jory and glad it didn’t get flipped for 8k on that site.
thank you… I appreciate that

its actually pretty nice... the only issue is that one screw. But , I wouldn't kick it out of bed for that ! Super hard to find in any way shape or form.. Nothing better then buying something away from someone who's just going to flip it for profit...

There is definitely a reason that Mike and Bruce devoted a whole chapter in Vol 1 to these, they are an important part of 98 history. I’ll have to go back and re read the chapter again!

I don’t know how many examples there are known but I’m not certain I have ever seen one this original.

Ty--This one is definitely top shelf in terms of originality. I've got a few with matching bolts, but all have some depot work. It may not be the prettiest, but for study purposes, it's great to have-- and even better it wasn't on everyone's favorite site for $8k!

It is an honest survivor for sure. I was just curious if you could make it out at all, Bubba cut out that part of the stock when sporterized the 98b I found so I'll never know what it was ☹
