Kar 98B Primer

I just subscribed, - I saw a series on the 98a too... will check them out.

They're really worth watching, especially for subjects that you don't already know a ton about. C&R has been discussed before and while they're probably not going to be full of new revelations for a serious researcher who has dug into a specific niche for years, they're really good for accessible high level overviews. I know less than nothing about Belgian Nagants or Frommer Stops so it's a pretty good place to start on those kinds of topics. If you're already up to your eyeballs in a specific subject you'll probably find a few errors, but they're also pretty good about correcting things and seem happy to discuss them with people who do know more on a specific subject than they do.

^^^^agreed. The show is a perfect entry level gateway into whatever they are covering. Great show for all especially the youth, being on YT. I appreciate that they also keep politics out of the show. Also that they haven't gone off the deep end making wacky click bait videos.

I greatly enjoy their episodes.

Addressing the kar 98B, I wish they said a little more of what/where they were used during WWII. Beyond just “rear echelon troops”. I imagine there is not a lot of reference, so that is probably why.

Anyone have photos of the Kar 98B being used during the war?

This is a better quality version of the photo used in the episode (I imagine he deliberately blurs them to avoid copyright strikes). Only thing I could find mentions it’s from Operation Barbarossa. Hitler’s garands had this photo in the book as well. Looking closer at the photo, both soldiers behind the one wielding the SVT-40 are armed with Kar 98Bs.

Thats cool, thanks for sharing!

Are we sure those are Kar 98B’s? Those bolts look straight to me? Definitely the rear one at least, I think.

I agree, I was impressed by the quality of his historical context! Short and concise, but not superficial... I couldn't have done better as I tend to be distracted by the details and trivia... or as Peter once commented "preachy", but that is a natural flaw of someone who devours books instead of a quality academic education in the arts.

Thank you for the kind words Connor. And I'll be honest. I can't take all the credit for this one though. I still want to give a big thanks to my buddy Dave Roberts for selling me that rifle a few years ago. That type of rifle will always hold a special place in my heart, and makes me appreciate it even more. Especially coming from a good friend.

I also want to think my buddy Jeff from kentucky too. He's good friends with the C&R arsenal staff. After all it was his MG08/15, and T-gewehr they used in some of their previous videos. They reached out to him asking if he knew anyone. That might have a nice 98b. Who would be willing to loan it out for the show. He basically replied I know a guy lol. So I appreciate him helping arrange the deal. Plus it helps support the show as well.

Also, Connor you have some thanks from me too. Thank you for helping me check out everything on this rifle. After all, we test fired it first on your property, before we even sent it out. Not to mention. Helping out with the shipping with this rifle, at the gun store you help out with

So in the long run. I think we contributed in some way to this video lol!
