Kar. 98 (NOT Kar98a) auction result

Wasn't my auction, but thought too interesting to not share the end result of a very rare Gew98 variant - the Kar. 98. For what I know this model was made for the MG troops and aside the very short length had some other unique features, such as the turned down flattened bolt handle, etc.

Hammer price was 4116 Euro, stays within Germany. Third bidder stopped at 3298,88 Euro.

Looks like maybe someone converted it to a bolt cutout at some point in its life, and then it was restored with the m/m bolt that’s mentioned.

I saw this carbine about a month ago or so. Interesting carbine because of the stock. Without seeing the unit mark. I can't say it saw action with the Schutztruppe. I have it cataloged as 1904/Erfurt/1637/Kar.98/? (carbine is a Kar.98 2nd model.)
