hey all, a buddy found this KAR88 in a local shop. says all external matching, although he didnt get to check the bolt head. Not my focus area, but its interesting to me that theres no stock markings. I did blacken the price but im happy to provide it if anyones interested. I might go look at it myself if it passes muster here. These are all the pix i have now. Buddy says bottom metal and screws match also. anything else i should look for other than disassembling the rifle which this shop will likely allow?

Something is off about that nose cap and the barrel's fitment to it. The muzzle crown isn't right either, something has been done on that front end besides the "police" modification on the ears. My kar 88 is probably my favorite 8mm mauser gun to shoot though so if the price is right and the bore looks good, they're great guns if you like recoil and flames.
 
thx guys, they asking almost 1600, outta line for me. so some police dept may have ground off the sight ears? any more details on that? im not interested in the gun as it is but always like to learn details

I’d default to Chris’s judgement on this particular carbine but yes, some Kar 88’s had their ears ground for police use within Germany to my knowledge. As an aside you’ll see matched unmolested guns sell for around 1K at auction often, don’t bother with that one at that price. Maybe if it was half of $1,600 and personally I’d still pass.
 
thx again everyone, ive never seen one of these carbines and was curious if it would be worth the ride to go examine it anyways. guess i wont bother, unless something else decent turns up down there
