Also the soldier is an officer and wears the Knights Cross. Interesting if he was the front line sniper or just poses with the rifle for the newsreel.

I notice that the bolt handle is straight, but angled downwards rather than curved as per the K98k. Nor does there appear to be the typical depression cut in the stock. What does this indicate?

It appears to be the Soviet side mount re-used.
