Your bnz45 is typical sounding. If you try to make it better you only kill the value. Post some pics of it in the ww2 era section!

I recently acquired a very nice BNZ45, s/n 7801q. The barrel carries a marking EG and (shield) bnz/4?. After looking at "latewar.com", all components and markings are present. The rear receiver was poorly finished before blackening. The bolt looks like a kid with a grinder went after the rear lug area of the bolt..left unbfinished (looks terrible). The barrel looks good inside and out except for what appears to be corrosion about 5" from the muzzle...yet based on the face of the bolt, it looks unfired. The normally "smooth" Mauser bolt action is absent. Its stiff. I have not checked head spacing. The operation of the safety is terrible...had to use a rubber mallet to move it to safe and center/maintenance. If anyone has any comments on the ugly grindings and stiff action, I'd be obliged. I don't know if I acquired a "lemon!"

On the contrary, late WWII guns with rough parts are sought after. For me, the later and uglier the better, and I’m not alone in that!! Let’s see some photos of it, as farb suggested. You may have a really desirable rifle.

I have a bnz 42 that my dads uncle brought back. I would love any info I could get. More than happy to share pics. My grandfather had the stock sporterized though. Otherwise all metal is original and has matching numbers.
