K98k PEM

Searching the Federal Archive over here I came across an interesting document from the Heeres Zeugamt. Dated late 1944 it lists all the Russian booty weapons in stock. All the Russian sniper rifles listed are "with no scope". Maybe the German Army did use the Russian scopes with K98s in a lager scale than one would expect.

IMHO , it would seem logical to do so as there was a great demand for Scoped Rifles after the invasion of Russia . From the known production records I would suspect they do reflect an increase in Sniper Rifles after Barbarossa ?. Best Regards

A photo found somewhere online years ago that appears to show a PE scope in Soviet side mount refitted to a Mauser.

I believe certain German documents are reproduced in Senich that mention the increased emphasis on sniping from the German side in 1943/44. It seems there was a definite campaign in those years to collect and remount Soviet scopes.

Dozens of PE and PEM scopes in what appear to be German style sporting mounts have turned up on eBay.de over the years. I used to save the photos, but gave up a long time ago as there were so many. In some cases the windage drum or knob was removed if the German mounts incorporated windage adjustment.

Of course some of these scopes were brought home as souvenirs by soldiers and remounted for hunting use also, so it can be difficult to be certain which is the case.

russian scopes

you do find a number of Russian scopes with the markings scrubbed and new glass fitted with only number on the turret block. Russian snipers were meant to put their cleaning rod through the lens to stop them falling in to the enemies hands.
The other interesting thing is the scope base number AM 205 AM 202 is in the UK pattern room on a finish sniper

Paul .
With the a Base AM205 being at Pattern Room and one with same # on Georg`s Rifle , Is is safe to say the Russian would restart a Serial Number Range over similar to Germans practice . If that is not possible can You explain why the same Numbers on 2 different bases . Thank You & Best Regards
