K98k Mauser WEST POINT SNIPER DISPLAY sold for 3K, worth it?

subscribed, this seems like a very interesting thread

The commentary may be on the negative side, but when you look at how egregious an act that was selling a $500 gun for $3000 straight faced to a sheep of a buyer (though foolish for not researching AT ALL prior to buying) is the real entertainment to subscribe to.

It is a real sore point for serious collectors to see crap like this. It takes something away from the hobby, IMHO. What you are seeing is venting frustration about this whole aspect of K98k collecting.

Seems like he’s implying that since West Point cadets touched them that they are original, or that somehow being displayed there legitimizes them. If you’ve ever been to these public displays you’ll know that much of the stuff displayed is crap.

Every gun I own is a "VET BRING BACK" because I am a veteran, and I brought every gun I own, back home, from some where....:googlie

See how easy it is ...............

what would be a reasonable price for it? sure it doesn't worth 3k, but it should worth something right? 1000? 1500?

No use telling him. Let him live in blissful ignorance. The shock will come when he decides to sell it or shows it to someone who knows something about K98k’s.

I see the rifle has been relisted!

You got a link for this? Linked below was the last from the original seller.

The rifle was probably sporterized and the seller "restored" it with a Yugo stock and incorrect bands. Ultimately, it's a fantasy piece, as LSR mounted BCD 43's didn't exist. Realistically, I think it's worth under $1000. I'm not an expert in K98k "sniper" pricing, but this is a bubba job, not an authentic piece.

I'm just amazed by the seller's story. So this guy said he takes (took) his personal collection to the point to show cadets 75 year old WWII weapons for familiarity purposes? Why? So why does that make any of those weapons anything but what they are? I am not sure I understand the logic.

Jeff

I suspect the seller thought that since this was shown to WP cadets, it now has "celebrity" status and as such adds more value.
