Hello all! I found this rifle in my wife's grandfather's house when it was being cleaned out. I have enjoyed doing research on this little piece of history and posted these same pics on another forum and asked for help. I was told that you guys would also appreciate seeing this rifle as well and might have some good insight to it. It was also recommended to me to get Law's book, "Backbone of the Wehrmacht" to aid my research. The book arrived today! I look forward to reading through the other threads I see on this forum.

Seems like I'm only allowed to post 4 pics. I'm sure I missed something. If you have a tip on posting more pics, I'd love to hear. Thank you!

I think you have to post a few more times. 4 or 5 posts or a mod open it up for you.

Looks like a really nice rifle! Really nice looking. Dual code is good too, very desirable.

Id love to find one!!

Here are a few more pics

What you've shown so far looks good to me.

The stock will be numbered inside the barrel channel.

All the bolt parts and sight parts will be numbered.

Looks like it's missing the band spring. Not a huge deal, it isn't numbered.

I am very interested in preserving this rifle. I have no idea how to do that properly. I have been told that a light cleaning would be OK, but without understanding what that really means I'm afraid to touch it. Advice on how to best preserve this rifle would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Short answer: don't clean it. Oil the metal, wipe off any crud that can easily be removed, clean the barrel, leave the rest alone.

Good advise. The lightest approach is often best. A soft, clean white cotton cloth works well. You can easily see what wipes off. A soft bristle brush like you'd clean lenses with for the nooks and crannies. Can't ever undo any damage. Rifle looks like a winner.

Fantastic rifle...honestly, other than wiping it down with a soft cotton cloth, I wouldn't do anything to it, it looks perfect the way it is.

No reason to do anything to the wood....

That is a keeper for sure, you don't find them much better.

I would try to find a genuine sight hood in matching condition to add, since I think they look naked with out them....but that's just me.

Good find! I have a similar story with my find several months ago.

I've got a matching dual code sn 2409c ! Nice to see another with the flat buttplate so late. Thanks for showing.
