Hey K98 Crew!

Looking to purchase a K98k 1943 DOT that is all matching, is re-blued, polished bolt for $1,000.

All parts with the exception of stock and front barrel band match without import marks. Not a Russian capture, some of the waffenamp have been smoothly polished off. Great rifling, very minor pitting on the exterior. Looks like very little work has been done to the rifle with the exception of the blueing.

What are your thoughts on pricing?

Thanks crew!

Cheers,
Chris

I'm virtually certain this is a 'Mitchell's Mauser' and all those matching numbers are faked by them. My opinion is $1000 is too much.

My sense is from that polished bolt although I concede 'some guy' could have done it. MM did it' 100% of the time on the ones they sold and I'm sure they did 1000s.

Look at the barrel carefully for their mark. It's like MMC, something, CA if I recall correctly.

“MMC HB CA” and “8MM” are typical Mitchell’s Mausers markings, from when they were in Huntington Beach Ca.
in the ww1-ww2 era, military rifles weren’t marked as to caliber. so if it says “8MM”, “8x57” or anything similar, that is an import mark. is there a large asterisk on top of the receiver or near the serial number on the left side of the teceiver ring?

often along the woodline between the bands, or on bottom of the barrel above the cleaning rod. sometimes a die stamp, sometimes dot matrix. they specialized in buying the best condition rc s importing them & then polishing, rebluing &force-matching the rifles, & the polished bolt was the icing on the ‘cake’. mostly good shooters, for re-enactors, little value to collectors.

You need to post good photos of every single marking and serial number on the rifle to provide an accurate assessment. This is important in the 98k world to determine what you have. 1 or 2 photos won't cut it.

Looks like a matching rifle, and therefore not a Mitchell's.
I see what you're saying looking at the bolt numbering and that m suffix especially look authentic. So 'some guy' was SO impressed by Dandy Don's handiwork he made his own 'tribute'? Honestly it's as funny as it is phucked up.
